My Dream: A Dream to be a Rabbit

If I were to be an animal for one day, I would become a Rabbit. I will be jumping around on the river bank to see the beautiful scenery. I will be a really cute and pretty Rabbit with fur that is white and brown. My favorite foods are carrots. As a soft and cute Rabbit all the humans will want to pat me and give me food and drink to eat.

KidsFfest

KidsFfest is Indonesia's international film festival for kids with great films from all over the world. This festival was organized by Kalyana Shira Foundation. ISCO children are invited to participate in this event.

The beginning of ISCO and Kalyana Shira Foundation collaboration is KidsFfest Workshop 2009. A workshop of making short movie directed by Nia Dinata. Children are trained to make a screenplay about their daily lives. Then they shoot by themselves all the scenes that have been prepared. Is n’t it cool?

After this workshop, ISCO children enliven and participate in KidsFfest subsequent years. Even participate break the fast together with Sister/Brother from Indonesia famous artists. All children are happy. Thank you to Ka Nia Dinata and Kalyana Shira Foundation.

Child Profile: Wiranda

Hi …

My name is Sri Dea Wiranda Hasni. I am born in a simple family as the oldest of three brothers. My parents are Bapak Hasan Basri and Ibu Nurdewilis. I honour them. I have two married sisters, their husbands names are Willy Denhas and Widiya Salsa Hasni.

I am visiting the school on level 12 and I am waiting for the national exams to finish up. I have the feeling that time flies. No time to play, no time to enjoy. I want to give my best effort to pass the exams with best results for my parents, my family, my teacher and my sanggar.

My hobbys? Well, there were a lot of things I was interested. In a way, drawing is a nice hobby. But it bored me. I just wanted to hurry up to level 12, without wasting time for Arts and Culture. The only thing I liked was dancing. But now I prefer drawing instead of dancing.

The first week the teacher makes the task of drawing a Doodle. Yes a Doodle. A doodle is a picture with only two colors: mostly black and white. But it can also be graded with bright colors. My teacher said: “I will collect them next week.” All the children were protesting, because of given such a short time to complete it. Of course, I was protesting too. But he kept to his demands.

I find it difficult because you have to draw so accurately. But the teacher, who ignored our protest, calmed down with the words: “I am sure you can do it. The result will be very good.”  And the teacher says also that Arts is a part of the Culture. Hah … How can I finish up this work in just one week? All other obligations remain unprocessed.

During that my days are burdened with the task of drawing -_-.Home from school straight to the Sanggar, after that directly home to help Mom. And in the night I should draw -_-. But that night I drew nothing. I was just staring on an empty character block. The second day was like this too, no any drawing on the character block. And the next day was the same. While my friends where drawing avidly and brought to school a character block to complete the task of drawing. But me? Not a single stroke of graffiti. I was busy to complete other tasks.

The fifth day, this was the day I started to draw and pour my ideas. Imagine, I was just starting to draw with black marker. No streaks or slightly out of line in coloring. I started to draw my favorite cartoons. Pororo and Mario Bross. Then I draw a dream catcher. Dream catcher is a hanger-known in Korea, symbolizing "Dream Keeper".  Yes. It carry the dream in a nightmare.

I draw a danbo doll, certainly many know the danbo dolls from karton. I like dolls headbands for his unique look. I prefer something unique. Hehe ... I draw a clock. Yeah ... a clock symbolizes time, time adolescent spend with social media like whatsapp, facebook, instagram and others. I draw a braided hair woman to represent me. At school my hair was always braided by my friends. I draw a car and the flag of London. Why did I draw this? It’s because once if I have a car, I will go to London for holidays. Or hopefully I can go there to visit the college. Hehe. I draw a guitar to symbolizes the desire to know how to play it.

I draw a veiled woman. This includes also the desire to be hooded very quickly to disappear to sink into thought. The first thought is in God and in understanding formulas and music lessons. This is because I love music, I often listening to. I draw a mosque. The veiled woman is me. I symbolize the Muslims. And I draw a sun. The sun is my symbol for a Sanggar. Exactly the Sanggar Mentari which brightens my dreams.

And at last I draw a flower as decoration and wonderful complement. I do because I love flowers too. After that I began to play around with a black marker to complete the drawing. Not at all feeling that Thursday has already arrived, it's time to finish up my task doodle. For me it is a very passable result. 

All my doodle image has a meaning. Meaning in everyday life. I'm proud of myself , I've completed my doodle within two days.

The long and winding road to the upcoming Saturday, March 6, 2010 are start to show some results. Starting the art class on October 2009 with 109 unexperienced children in Jakarta, 120 children in Surabaya, and 60 children in Medan, now ISCO are very proud to assist these children whom after intensive 5 months training are transforming into near-pro art performers.

They can dance, sing, play musical instruments, and create many paintings, crafts, and others arts materials.

Moreover, they are very excited about the opportunities to performs in front of all the 300 guests in Theater Nyi Ageng Serang, Jl. HR Rasuna Said. Make sure to save a date to share the magical cultural moment in a festive ambiance of 1000 talented adorable yet vulnerable street children.

ISCO Children Happy Day (Hari Gembira Anak ISCO / HAGIS) Februari 2010

The 336 selected ISCO sponsored children in Jakarta (from total 700 children in Jakarta and 1930 children in Indonesia) were had fun in public places on January 31, 2010.

249 number of them went to Ragunan Zoo whilst 87 children took delight times in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.

These selected children living in very slum and underprivileged areas but managed to achieve high rank in their school (top ten ranks in class), had almost perfect absents rate (above 90% of attendance) in school and activity center.

Without support from ISCO, it was extremely rare opportunity for these children to enjoy such fun educative trip.

The children did not waste the moment and explore the event sites.

Children in Ragunan Zoo were strolling around and learning how to distinguish characteristic of different types of animals, along with memorized the plants names. The feeling of being in open space was very relaxing for them, especially because they were used to stay in their narrow, gloomy, crowded, slum areas which limited their playgrounds and movements literally.

In Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, children were learning about the rich Indonesian cultures such as the traditional attires, folk tales, musical instruments, sculptures, and the history which brings all the ethnics and culture groups united in one nation, Indonesia. Children were very enthusiast and kept tagging ISCO staffs demanding more explanation about the things inside Taman Mini Indonesia Indah’s museum.

Children in both places sat for had picnic lunch time, and played various kind of games.

These children know they deserved this experienced. They captured the opportunity given. They worked real hard in school and activity centers with strong will and persistence in a threatening condition. Now, they reaped the fruits and had some serious fun.

ISCO regularly takes children with high achievements, gain top ten ranks in school and high attendance rates to the various affordable fun educative learning places as the rewards of their continuous effort.

If you know more information about affordable educational public places in Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan suitable for children age 5-18 years old, please let us know so we could bring our children to those edutainment places next year around January-March.
